What this amendment would do
Mr. Peters submitted amendment SA 817, which is intended to be proposed for the concurrent resolution S. Con. Res. 7 for the fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
The purpose of this amendment is to add a new point of order to title IV of the budget resolution. It aims to prohibit the Senate from considering any bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, amendment between the Houses, or conference report that would threaten the safety of Americans living in communities where oil and natural gas pipelines run.
To bypass this rule, the amendment requires an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the sworn Members of the Senate to waive or suspend the point of order, or to sustain an appeal of the ruling of the Chair.
