What this amendment would do
Mr. Peters submitted an amendment, numbered SA 813, to the concurrent resolution setting the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2025 and for fiscal years 2026 through 2034.
What the amendment aims to change or add
The amendment adds a new point of order to title IV of the budget resolution. Its purpose is to stop the Senate from considering any bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, amendment between the Houses, or conference report that would reduce Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for Americans under the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008.
How it can be bypassed
To waive or suspend this rule in the Senate, or to sustain an appeal of the ruling of the Chair on a point of order, it requires an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Members, duly chosen and sworn.
