What this amendment would do

Mr. Booker submitted an amendment numbered SA 798 to the concurrent budget resolution for the United States Government. As your legislative analyst, my job is to keep things straightforward so we can hold our elected officials accountable. This amendment sets up a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to protecting school meals.

What It Aims to Change or Add

The amendment gives the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget the power to change budget allocations and make adjustments. This can happen for bills, resolutions, or amendments that are about school meals.

Specifically, the changes can include not changing community eligibility under a specific section of the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act for schools and school districts. There is one major rule attached to this: the legislation must not increase the deficit over the total period from fiscal year 2025 through fiscal year 2034.
