What this amendment would do
Mr. Booker submitted amendment SA 793 to the concurrent resolution on the congressional budget for fiscal year 2025 and budgetary levels for fiscal years 2026 through 2034.
The purpose of this amendment is to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to ensuring that victims of religious persecution are not removed to a country in which they have not previously resided.
It aims to allow the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise committee allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels. It also allows the Chairman to make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation relating to human rights.
This can include ensuring access to asylum for applicants or canceling the practice of removing people who have been persecuted based on their religion to a country in which they have not previously resided, as long as the legislation does not increase the deficit over the fiscal years 2025 through 2034 period.
