What this amendment would do
-
Mr. Schumer submitted SA 776, which creates a new rule in the Senate called a point of order.
-
This rule stops Congress from passing legislation that cuts taxes for people making over $1,000,000,000 while also cutting Medicaid coverage, shifting funding or coverage responsibilities to states, or reducing net federal funding for Medicaid.
Purpose of the Amendment
-
The purpose of this amendment is to hold our officials accountable by making it harder to give massive tax breaks to the wealthiest individuals at the expense of everyday people relying on Medicaid.
-
To get around this rule and pass such a bill anyway, it would take a three-fifths affirmative vote of the Senators chosen and sworn.
