What this amendment would do
As folks looking out for the everyday people of our country, we need to keep a close eye on how our elected officials handle our money, especially when disaster strikes. Mr. Bennet submitted amendment SA 774, which deals with setting up a deficit-neutral reserve fund to protect disaster response.
Purpose of the Amendment
The main point of this amendment is to allow the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to make changes to financial allocations and adjustments for legislation related to actions that would limit the ability of the Federal Government to respond in times of disaster. This covers natural disasters like wildfires, flooding, tornadoes, and hurricanes.
What It Changes or Adds
-
Adds a new section at the end of title III for a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to protecting disaster response.
-
Changes budget allocations and adjustments as long as the legislation does not increase the deficit over the total of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
