What this amendment would do
-
Sets up money: This amendment creates a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to lowering food prices.
-
Gives power to the budget chairman: It lets the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate change allocations, aggregates, and other levels in the resolution, and make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger.
-
Targets specific legislation: These changes can be made for bills, joint resolutions, amendments, amendments between the Houses, motions, or conference reports that relate to lowering food prices.
-
Protects certain programs: The efforts to lower food prices may include prohibiting provisions that decrease funding for programs that combat animal disease or programs aimed at reducing input costs for farmers.
-
Protects the budget: The legislation must not increase the deficit over the period of the total of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
