What this amendment would do

Mr. Peters submitted amendment SA 744 to the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2025. The purpose of this amendment is to hold our officials accountable by setting up a procedural hurdle—known as a point of order—in the Senate.

What It Aims to Change

  • The amendment adds a new section to title IV of the bill.

  • It aims to block the consideration of any bill, resolution, motion, amendment, or conference report that would allow for increased liquefied natural gas exports.

  • This restriction only applies if the sitting President has declared a national energy emergency.

  • To bypass this rule and allow such measures to be considered anyway, it would take a three-fifths affirmative vote of the sworn Members of the Senate.
