What this amendment would do
As your legislative analyst, I want to keep you informed on what our elected officials are trying to do with our tax dollars and the rules they play by. Ms. Warren, along with several other Senators, introduced an amendment designated as SA 736.
The purpose of this amendment is to add a new rule to the Senate. This rule creates a point of order, which is basically a procedural hurdle that stops Congress from moving forward with certain actions.
Specifically, it aims to prevent the Senate from considering any legislation that provides for spending in reconciliation legislation until every Inspector General who was terminated has been reinstated.
To bypass this block and pass the spending legislation anyway, it would take a large three-fifths vote of the Senators chosen and sworn.
