What this amendment would do
Ms. Warren submitted SA 728 to the congressional budget resolution for fiscal year 2025 through 2034. The purpose of this amendment is to hold officials accountable by creating a new rule in the Senate.
What It Aims to Change
-
It adds a point of order to title IV of the budget resolution.
-
It makes it out of order in the Senate to consider any bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, amendment between the Houses, or conference report that would raise costs for middle class families while an unelected billionaire illegally directs cuts to certain programs.
-
The programs protected from these cuts are those that keep air travel safe, preserve services for veterans, and ensure the integrity of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid payments.
-
It allows this new rule to be waived or suspended, or an appeal of the Chair's ruling to be sustained, only by an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the sworn Senators.
