What this amendment would do
As folks keeping an eye on how our government spends money, it is our job to know what our elected officials are trying to put into motion. Mr. Luján submitted SA 700, which is an amendment intended to be proposed for the concurrent resolution setting forth the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2025 and the appropriate budgetary levels for fiscal years 2026 through 2034.
The purpose of this amendment is to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to the National Laboratories of the Department of Energy at the end of title III.
- It aims to allow the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels, and make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger.
- These revisions can be made for legislation relating to supporting the 17 National Laboratories of the Department of Energy.
- The supported activities may include supporting research and development initiatives, enhancing technological innovation, or maintaining infrastructure critical to national security.
- This can only happen provided that the legislation would not increase the deficit over the period of the total of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
