What this amendment would do
Mr. Lujan submitted amendment numbered SA 691. The purpose of this amendment is to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to providing justice and compensation for Americans impacted by United States nuclear testing and mining.
It aims to allow the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution, and make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger. This is for legislation relating to ensuring that compensation is made to people in the United States who were sickened by radiation exposure by above-ground nuclear weapons testing throughout the western United States and Pacific islands, and to those who were sickened by radiation while working in the uranium mining industry during the Cold War.
This change applies as long as the legislation does not increase the deficit over the period of the total of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
