What this amendment would do

Mr. Luján submitted SA 687 to propose an addition to the congressional budget resolution for fiscal year 2025. The purpose of this amendment is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund focused on national security threats caused by wildfire and drought in western States.

How It Changes the Bill

This amendment aims to add a new section to the end of title III of the budget. It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to change committee allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution. It also allows the Chairman to make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation relating to addressing national security threats caused by wildfire and drought in western States.

Keeping Officials Accountable

Under this amendment, these changes can only happen if the legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
