What this amendment would do
Here is the straight talk on what this amendment is all about. Mr. Luján submitted SA 674, which creates a new point of order in the Senate.
What It Aims to Change or Add
-
The amendment adds a new rule to the budget resolution.
-
It aims to make it out of order in the Senate to consider any legislation that would fund or subsidize special Government employees in the executive branch if those employees refuse to get rid of assets that could cause a conflict of interest.
-
To get around this rule and pass such legislation anyway, it would take a three-fifths vote of the Senators chosen and sworn.
-
It also requires that same three-fifths vote if someone wants to appeal a ruling made by the Chair regarding this rule.
