What this amendment would do

SA 6686, submitted by Mrs. Britt, is an amendment to bill S. 4784. It aims to add a section regarding the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and the Indian Reorganization Act.

The amendment intends to change or add the following:

  • It establishes that the Poarch Band of Creek Indians is considered "now under Federal jurisdiction" as of June 18, 1934, for the purposes of the Indian Reorganization Act.

  • It reaffirms all lands taken into trust by the United States for the benefit of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians before the date the Act is enacted.

  • It ratifies and confirms the actions taken by the Secretary of the Interior to take those lands into trust under the Indian Reorganization Act.
