What this amendment would do

SA 6634, submitted by Mr. JOHNSON, aims to add a new section to bill S. 4784 regarding a study on pharmaceutical ingredients.

The purpose of this amendment is to have the Secretary of Health and Human Services work with the RAND Corporation to:

  • Study how much drug manufacturers use foreign sources for active pharmaceutical ingredients and precursor chemicals for drugs sold in the United States market.

  • Study any barriers (regulatory, statutory, or other) that stop the domestic production of these ingredients and chemicals.

  • Provide a report on these findings to the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
