What this amendment would do
Mr. Blumenthal submitted SA 662 to the Senate budget resolution for fiscal year 2025. Common sense tells us that keeping our elected officials accountable means looking closely at how they handle our government funds and our workers. This amendment sets up a deficit-neutral reserve fund specifically for strengthening the Department of Veterans Affairs workforce.
Purpose and Changes to the Bill
The purpose of this amendment is to allow the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to adjust budget allocations and levels for legislation that supports the Department of Veterans Affairs workforce. Specifically, it aims to add a new section to title III of the budget resolution that covers legislation addressing several key areas:
-
Prevent the implementation of the ``Fork in the Road'' memorandum.
-
Prohibit the reclassification of employees to Schedule F.
-
Prohibit the diminution of civil service protections.
-
Prohibit the removal of oversight and inspector general accountability.
The catch—and it is an important one for the good of the people—is that any legislation using this fund cannot increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
