What this amendment would do
Mr. Welch put forward this amendment, known as SA 658, to the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2025. It deals with how our government handles federal nutrition programs and food insecurity.
Purpose and Changes
-
Streamlining applications: The amendment aims to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund that allows for changes to make it easier for qualified individuals to be approved for Federal nutrition programs.
-
Budget adjustments: It gives the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate the power to change committee allocations and other appropriate levels to support legislation addressing food insecurity.
-
Deficit protection: Any legislation passed using this fund cannot increase the federal deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
