What this amendment would do

SA 6543, submitted by Ms. Alsobrooks, aims to add a new section to the bill regarding the Defense Information School.

The purpose of this amendment is to provide the following:

  • Degree Authority: It allows the Commandant of the Defense Information School to grant an associate of arts degree in communications to students, based on regulations from the Secretary of Defense.
  • Certification: A degree can only be given after the Provost of the Defense Information School certifies that the student met all requirements.
  • Reporting: The Secretary of Defense must provide an annual report to congressional defense committees detailing the plan and timeline for implementing this authority. These reports will stop once the first degree is conferred.
