What this amendment would do
SA 6524, submitted by Mrs. Shaheen, aims to add a new section to bill S. 4784. The purpose of this amendment is to require a report that analyzes the use of long-acting injectable preventative malaria medication.
The amendment requires the Secretary of State, working with the Commander of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, to provide a report to the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.
The report must analyze the following:
-
The use of this medication through the Department of Defense's Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring and Research Program and the Department of State's Office of Infectious Diseases and Outbreak Response.
-
Which programs within the President's Malaria Initiative would benefit from the use of this medication.
-
How the Department of Defense and Department of State use the medication for members of the Armed Forces and diplomats serving in areas where malaria is endemic.
