What this amendment would do

SA 6506, submitted by Mrs. Shaheen, aims to add a new section to bill S. 4784.

The purpose of this amendment is to create the Lebanon Illicit Goods and Finances Program.

Under this program, the Secretary of State would provide support to Lebanese security institutions to:

Improve their forensics detection capabilities.
Identify and track financial crimes.
Identify and track the production and trafficking of Captagon and other illicit goods.

The goal is to target goods that serve as a source of revenue for Hezbollah and other malign actors.
