What this amendment would do

SA 6504, submitted by Mrs. Shaheen, aims to add a section titled LEBANON STABILIZATION STRATEGY to bill S. 4784.

The purpose of this amendment is to require the Secretary of State to provide a strategy to specific Senate and House committees within 60 days of the Act's enactment. This strategy must explain how the Department of State will use funds for Lebanon reconstruction to support a plan that:

  • Expands Lebanese state services.
  • Increases legitimate political participation in Lebanese communities that currently rely on parallel services from Hezbollah.
