What this amendment would do

SA 6489, submitted by Mrs. Shaheen, aims to add a new section to bill S. 4784.

The purpose of this amendment is to require the Secretary of State, working with the Secretary of Defense, to provide an assessment of Egypt's intentions regarding military cooperation with the People's Republic of China.

  • This assessment must be submitted to the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, the Senate Committee on Armed Services, the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and the House Committee on Armed Services.
  • The report is due no later than 180 days after the Act is enacted.
  • The assessment must consider military exercises that took place during the previous two calendar years.
