What this amendment would do

SA 6459, submitted by Mr. HICKENLOOPER, aims to add a new section to bill S. 4784.

The purpose of this amendment is to require a report on the rates of suicides within the Armed Forces.

The amendment adds the following requirements:

  • The Secretary of Defense, working with the Secretary of Homeland Security for the Coast Guard, must conduct a review.
  • A report must be submitted to the Committee on Armed Services of the Senate and the Committee on Armed Services of the House of Representatives.
  • The report must show suicide rates disaggregated by service component.
  • This must be completed no later than one year after the Act is enacted.
