What this amendment would do

SA 6353 is an amendment proposed by Mr. HEINRICH and others to be added to bill S. 4784, which deals with military and defense appropriations for fiscal year 2027. The purpose of this amendment is to provide defense nuclear waste reauthorizations.

It aims to change or add the following:

  • Waste Isolation Pilot Plant: It removes the "14-year Authorization" heading and changes the authorization period to include each fiscal year until transuranic waste shipments to or from WIPP have been terminated.

  • Cheney Disposal Cell: It removes the expiration date of "September 30, 2031" from the authorization of the Cheney Disposal Cell.

  • West Valley Demonstration Project: It changes the funding from "$75,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2020 through 2026" to "$150,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2027 through 2037."
