What this amendment would do

SA 6346, submitted by Ms. Rosen, Mr. Sullivan, and Mr. Van Hollen, aims to change the mandatory retirement age.

The purpose of this amendment is to modify Section 812(a)(1) of the Foreign Service Act of 1980. It seeks to change the retirement age from age 65 to:

  • Age 67, or
  • The applicable retirement age as defined in section 216(l) of the Social Security Act, whichever is greater.
