What this amendment would do
SA 6341, submitted by Mr. Schumer, aims to add a section to bill S. 4784 that limits how funds are used for specific radar systems in fiscal year 2027.
The purpose of this amendment is to prevent the Department of Defense or military departments from using funds to retire, decommission, divest, or remove the following systems from active operational service:
- The AN/SPN-43 shipboard air traffic control and air marshaling radar system.
- The AN/SPY-1 phased-array radar system (Aegis Combat System).
- The AN/TPQ-36 and AN/TPQ-37 Firefinder counter-battery radar systems.
- Airborne Station Keeping Equipment (SKE) radar systems, including the AN/APN-243.
There is an exception to this rule. The limitation does not apply if the Secretary of the military department determines that individual units of these systems are damaged or degraded beyond economical repair.
