What this amendment would do
Mr. Merkley proposed this amendment, numbered SA 629, to be added to the concurrent resolution for the congressional budget for fiscal year 2025 through fiscal year 2034.
Purpose of the Amendment
The main purpose is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund focused on reducing opioid overdose rates. This lets the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget make adjustments to financial levels and allocations for legislation that targets this issue, as long as the legislation does not increase the deficit between fiscal years 2025 and 2034.
- Grants to expand access to naloxone in elementary or secondary schools.
- Issuing guidance to employers about getting, using, and training on opioid overdose reversal medication.
