What this amendment would do
MR. MERKLEY submitted amendment SA 625 to the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2025 through 2034. The purpose of this amendment is to hold the line on keeping our food safe for the people.
-
It adds a new point of order in the Senate against considering any legislation, resolution, motion, amendment, or conference report that would cut funding for food safety measures or cut the number of food safety inspectors.
-
To get around this rule and pass something that cuts these safety measures, it would take a three-fifths affirmative vote of the Senators chosen and sworn. It also takes a three-fifths vote to sustain an appeal of the ruling of the Chair on this point of order.
