What this amendment would do
Purpose and Changes
Mr. Merkley submitted this amendment to set up a new rule in the Senate, known as a point of order. The purpose is to protect existing transportation projects from losing their funding.
-
What it changes: It adds a new rule to the budget resolution that makes it out of order in the Senate to consider any legislation, resolution, motion, or amendment that would take back funding from projects meant to improve the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our transportation infrastructure.
-
How it can be overridden: This new rule can only be waived, suspended, or have its ruling appealed with an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the sworn Members of the Senate.
