What this amendment would do
SA 6200, submitted by Mr. SHEEHY, is an amendment to bill S. 4784. The purpose of this amendment is to ensure the continued operation of certain airports.
It aims to add a section that makes the following changes:
-
Real property or interests in real property conveyed by the United States under the Surplus Property Act of 1944 (or successor statutes) for use as an airport will be considered a defense asset.
-
If such an airport is being used as a public airport on the date this section is enacted, it must stay in operation as a public airport.
-
These airports cannot be permanently closed, disposed of, or converted to non-airport use unless an Act of Congress specifically authorizes it.
-
The Secretary of Transportation and the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration are responsible for ensuring this is followed.
