What this amendment would do

SA 6172, submitted by Mr. Rounds, aims to add a new section to S. 4784 regarding the preference for domestically manufactured displays in critical applications.

The purpose of this amendment is to require the Secretary of Defense, starting October 1, 2027, to prioritize the procurement of displays made in the United States that have supply chains substantially independent of Taiwan and the People's Republic of China.

This preference applies to displays used for:

  • Classified programs
  • Forward-deployed combat systems
  • Command and control systems designated as critical infrastructure

The Secretary can waive this requirement if they certify that the procurement is essential to national security and no allied or domestic source is available.
