What this amendment would do

SA 6151 is an amendment proposed by Mr. Wyden, Mr. Paul, and Ms. Lummis to be added to bill S. 4784. The purpose of this amendment is to repeal the Military Selective Service Act.

The amendment aims to add the following to the bill:

  • Repeal and Transfer: It repeals the Military Selective Service Act and prevents the reestablishment of the Office of Selective Service Records. It requires that assets, records, property, contracts, and unexpended appropriation balances be transferred to the Administrator of General Services within 180 days. It also requires the Director of the Office of Personnel Management to help Selective Service System employees move to other executive branch positions.

  • Existing Sanctions: It prevents federal law, states, political subdivisions, or political authorities from denying rights, privileges, benefits, or employment to people who failed to register under the Act before its repeal. It also states that failing to register cannot be used by the U.S. Government to determine if a person lacks good moral character or is unsuited for any benefit or privilege.

  • Conscientious Objectors: The amendment specifies that nothing in the section should diminish or undermine the rights of conscientious objectors under U.S. laws and regulations.
