What this amendment would do
SA 6133, submitted by Ms. Warren, aims to recognize and honor individuals who served in the United States Cadet Nurse Corps between July 1, 1943, and December 31, 1948.
The amendment proposes adding a new subsection to Section 106 of title 38, United States Code, to change the following:
-
Benefit Eligibility: Service for individuals honorably discharged from the Corps during the specified dates will be considered active duty for benefits under chapters 23 and 24 of title 38, including headstones and markers. This does not include interment in Arlington National Cemetery based solely on this service.
-
Discharge Process: The Secretary of Defense is directed to issue honorable discharges to eligible individuals within one year of the subsection's enactment, based on the nature and duration of their service.
-
Veteran Status: Individuals receiving this discharge will be honored as veterans, though they are not entitled to other benefits administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs beyond those mentioned in paragraph (1)(A).
-
Honors: The Secretary of Defense is authorized to create a service medal, commendation, memorial plaque, or grave marker to honor these individuals.
