What this amendment would do
SA 6085, also known as the Postal Operations Stay Timely and Local Act or the POSTAL Act, aims to add a new section to bill S. 4784.
The purpose of this amendment is to limit the actions the United States Postal Service can take regarding mail facilities. Specifically, it prevents the Postal Service from closing, consolidating, downgrading, or taking similar actions against a processing and distribution center in a State if that action would leave the State with no processing and distribution center.
- Processing and distribution center is defined as a central mail facility that distributes and dispatches incoming and outgoing mail for a service area, provides instructions to mailers on sorting and dispatch, and is a general mail facility, a sectional center facility, or a dedicated mail processing facility without a branch or station.
- State is defined as a State or the District of Columbia.
