What this amendment would do
-
Mr. Merkley submitted SA 608 to the budget resolution for fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
-
The purpose of this amendment is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund that focuses on reducing Federal health program spending for anti-obesity prescription drugs.
How It Changes the Budget Process
-
It allows the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to change committee allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution.
-
It permits adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation related to reducing the cost of prescription drugs approved for treating obesity.
-
It allows for the possible establishment of international reference prices so the United States can buy prescription drugs at the lowest price available among member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
The Main Rule
- Any legislation passed using this fund must not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
