What this amendment would do

Mr. Merkley submitted amendment SA 605 to the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2025. The purpose of this amendment is to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund related to defensible space and home hardening for wildfire resilient communities.

Here is what it aims to do:

  • Allow the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to change budget allocations and make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger.

  • Apply these changes for legislation relating to increasing community wildfire defense, which can include defensible space and home hardening programs over several years.

  • Require that this legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
