What this amendment would do

SA 6030, submitted by Mr. CORNYN, aims to add a new section to title V of bill S. 4784.

The purpose of this amendment is to stop the Department of Defense from providing funds to any elementary school or secondary school that hosts a Confucius Institute or Classroom.

  • Exception: Funds provided directly to students as educational assistance are still allowed.
  • Definition: A Confucius Institute or Classroom is defined as a cultural institute or educational partnership funded directly or indirectly by the Government of the People's Republic of China.
  • Timing: This limit starts in the first fiscal year that begins after 12 months from the date the Act is enacted.
