What this amendment would do

SA 6019, submitted by Mr. Bennet and Mr. Hickenlooper, is an amendment to bill S. 4784.

The purpose of this amendment is to add a section that prohibits the Secretary of the Interior from approving any applications to expand limestone operations on Bureau of Land Management land.

Specifically, this prohibition applies to:

  • Applications for the expansion of existing mineral operations on mining or mill site claims under general mining laws.
  • Mineral material sales contracts or applications under the Materials Act of 1947.
  • Mineral material sales contracts or applications under the Surface Resources Act of 1955.

The restriction is targeted at land located in whole or in part within the Southeast Quarter of Section 36, Township 5 South, Range 89 West, 6th Principal Meridian, Garfield County, Colorado.
