What this amendment would do
SA 6007, submitted by Mr. Cornyn and Mr. Whitehouse, aims to add a new section (SEC. 1094) to bill S. 4784 regarding the revocation of security clearances for certain persons.
The purpose of this amendment is to require the Secretary of Defense to suspend or revoke security clearances or eligibility for classified information for retired or separated members of the Armed Forces or civilian Department of Defense employees who engage in specific activities.
Those activities include:
- Lobbying activities or lobbying contacts for or on behalf of any entity identified by the Secretary of Defense as a Chinese military company.
- Lobbying activities or lobbying contacts for or on behalf of any entity included in the Non-SDN Chinese Military-Industrial Complex Companies List published by the Department of the Treasury.
The Secretary of Defense can waive this prohibition for up to 180 days if they certify to congressional defense committees that it is in the national security interest of the United States.
