What this amendment would do

SA 5969, submitted by Mr. Schiff, aims to add a new section to bill S. 4784 regarding a report on requirements for casualty notification officers and casualty assistance officers.

The purpose of this amendment is to require the Deputy Secretary of Defense and the Secretaries of the military departments to provide a report to the House and Senate Committees on Armed Services. This report must assess the following:

  • Policies, training requirements, and certification standards for casualty notification and assistance officers in each Armed Force.
  • Ways to improve the oversight, standardization, and training of these officers.
  • Recommendations on how the Department of Defense can get voluntary feedback from surviving family members to improve these programs.
