What this amendment would do
This amendment gives the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) the authority to detect, identify, monitor, and track unmanned aircraft systems and drones that pose a credible threat to NASA centers or facilities located within NASA property.
To keep our elected officials accountable, this amendment sets clear rules for how these actions can be carried out. It requires NASA to coordinate with the Federal Aviation Administration to protect aviation safety, limits the technologies that can be used to an approved joint list, and sets strict rules to protect people's privacy and constitutional rights. It also requires the agency to give semiannual briefings to the appropriate committees of Congress so our elected officials can oversee how this power is being used.
