What this amendment would do

As folks who pay attention to how our government works, it is important to keep an eye on what our elected officials are putting on the table. Mr. Merkley submitted an amendment, known as SA 594, which was ordered to lie on the table. The purpose of this amendment is to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to prohibiting the export of liquefied natural gas to China and other countries of concern.

What It Aims to Change or Add

This amendment aims to add a new section to title III of the concurrent resolution. Specifically, it allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to make adjustments and revise allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels for legislation that meets certain conditions.

  • Mitigates the harms caused by climate change
  • Prohibits exports of natural gas or petroleum products to specific countries
  • Targets the Chinese Communist Party (People's Republic of China), Iran, North Korea, and Russia
  • Does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034
