What this amendment would do
Mr. Welch submitted this amendment, numbered SA 5934, to the bill S. 4784. If we want to hold our officials accountable and look out for everyday people, it helps to understand what changes are being proposed for our military and veteran programs.
Purpose and Changes
The main purpose of this amendment is to make sure that the health records of deceased veterans and military enrollees can be updated with observed health conditions and other relevant health information.
- The Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs must jointly take these actions not later than one year after the enactment of the Act.
- These updates can be added by a person designated by the deceased enrollee, or by an immediate family member if no person was designated.
- The departments must create a process for individuals to make this designation.
- These updates will only supplement the existing information in the health records and cannot modify the information already contained in those records.
