What this amendment would do

SA 5923, submitted by Mrs. Shaheen, aims to modify the requirements for the Department of Defense to provide alternative drinking water. It proposes changes to Section 317 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2026.

The amendment seeks to change the following:

  • The section heading is changed by replacing "perfluorooctanesculfonic acid and perfluorooctanoic acid" with "certain".

  • It replaces "perfluorooctanesculfonic acid" with a list including perfluorohexanesulfonic acid, perfluorononanoic acid, hexafluoropropylene oxide dimer acid, perfluorobutanesulfonic acid, and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid.

  • In subsection (a)(2), it changes "exceeded the maximum containment level" to "exceeded the lower of the maximum containment level".

  • In subsection (a)(2), it changes "Environmental Protection Agency" to "Environmental Protection Agency or a State drinking water standard".
