What this amendment would do
This amendment proposes to add a new section to bill S. 4784 to create the Commission on American Leadership in Robotics.
The purpose of this amendment is to establish an independent commission to review advances in robotics. The commission aims to examine how robotics relates to:
- National security
- Economic competitiveness
- Interstate and foreign commerce
The commission will be composed of 18 members appointed by the President, the Speaker of the House, the House Minority Leader, the Senate Majority Leader, and the Senate Minority Leader. These members must be recognized experts in robotics, its applications in the public or private sectors, or its impact on international trade and supply chains.
The commission is tasked with reviewing methods and policies to ensure the United States maintains a technological advantage in robotics. This review includes looking at the domestic marketplace, international trends, workforce incentives for STEM talent, and supply chain risks.
The commission will provide two reports: an interim report within one year of its establishment and a final report with recommendations for Congress and the Federal Government within two years. The commission will terminate 18 months after the final report is submitted.
