What this amendment would do
SA 5729, submitted by Mr. Welch, aims to replace section 202 of the existing proposal.
The purpose of this amendment is to express the sense of the Senate on two main points:
-
Drug Price Negotiations: It seeks to repeal section 71203 of Public Law 119-21 and other mandated health care funding reductions. This is intended to allow Medicare to negotiate prices for rare disease drugs if annual Medicare spending on those drugs goes over $400,000,000, regardless of whether the drugs have orphan status.
-
Rural Health Funding: It aims to guarantee funding for the Rural Health Transformation Program by making sure funds given to States stay available until they are spent and by stopping the redistribution of funds that are unobligated or unexpended.
