What this amendment would do

SA 5608, submitted by Mr. Heinrich, aims to add a new section to title I of bill S. 2.

The purpose of this amendment is to:

Appropriate $500,000,000 for fiscal year 2026 to the Department of Agriculture and Customs and Border Patrol.
Use those funds until September 30, 2029, to research and deploy surveillance systems and technologies.
Monitor imports for pathogens and pests that would affect the domestic production of specialty crops.
Reduce the amount appropriated under section 102 to $6,950,000,000.
