What this amendment would do

SA 5601, submitted by Mr. HEINRICH, aims to add a new section to title I of bill S. 2.

The purpose of this amendment is to:

  • Appropriate $1,000,000,000 for fiscal year 2026 to the Secretary of Homeland Security. These funds are to be used for backlog reduction and expedited application processing by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and remain available until September 30, 2029.

  • Change the amount appropriated under section 102 to $6,450,000,000.
