What this amendment would do
SA 5562, submitted by Mr. Peters, aims to add a section to title I of bill S. 2 regarding appropriations for Department of Homeland Security (DHS) personnel equipment.
The amendment proposes the following:
-
Funding for Equipment: It appropriates $37,500,000 for fiscal year 2026 to the Secretary of Homeland Security. These funds are for purchasing gear, clothing, credentials, and equipment used to identify agency personnel and remain available until September 30, 2029.
-
Identification Requirements: It limits the use of funds in this title for enforcement activities or operations unless the DHS officer or agent clearly identifies as law enforcement and visibly displays marked gear, credentials, and identification. This must include the name of the officer or agent and their employing component, unless they are performing protective services or undercover activities.
-
Funding Reduction: It sets the amount appropriated under section 104 to $2,455,000,000.
